THE IMPLEMENTATION OF PROBLEM-BASED LEARNING TO IMPROVE GRADE XI STUDENTS’ LEARNING ACTIVENESS IN CHRISTIAN RELIGIOUS EDUCATION AT SMA NEGERI 1 PARBULUAN
Abstract
Learning activeness is an essential element in achieving effective Christian Religious Education (CRE) learning outcomes. However, many students still demonstrate passive learning behaviors, low classroom participation, limited critical thinking, and inadequate engagement during instructional activities. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in improving students’ learning activeness in Christian Religious Education among Grade XI.7 students at SMA Negeri 1 Parbuluan during the 2024/2025 academic year. This study employed a qualitative descriptive method. Data were collected through classroom observations, interviews with teachers and students, and documentation analysis. The findings indicate that the implementation of Problem-Based Learning contributed to the improvement of students’ learning activeness through active discussion, collaborative problem-solving, questioning activities, critical reflection, and the practical application of biblical values in real-life situations. Students demonstrated increased confidence, communication skills, responsibility, motivation, and participation during the learning process. Nevertheless, several obstacles were identified, including differences in student motivation, unequal participation within groups, and limited classroom time. The study concludes that the Problem-Based Learning model effectively enhances learning activeness in Christian Religious Education because it promotes critical thinking, collaborative interaction, and meaningful engagement with authentic moral and spiritual problems.
