IMPLEMENTASI STANDAR KRITERIA GSTC HOTEL PADA HOTEL HARPER MEDAN
Abstract
Although required by international standards and government regulations, three-star hotels in Medan City have not fully implemented sustainability principles. The sustainability management of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) based approach at Hotel Harper Medan, a three-star hotel, will be examined in this study. This study uses a case study methodology with a qualitative approach. Observation, indepth interviews, questionnaires, and documentation are used to collect data. The four main GSTC criteria sustainability management system, social and economic benefits, cultural preservation, and environmental impact reduction are then used as the basis for thematic analysis. The research findings indicate that, in accordance with ISO 9001:2015, Hotel Harper Medan has implemented a consistent and documented sustainability management system. Although not fully recorded, the hotel has collaborated with the local community on socio economic issues. The marketing approach has not integrated local culture; it remains symbolic. Meanwhile, the hotel's operational standards have systematically integrated eco-friendly procurement strategies. The study results confirm that the GSTC model can be applied contextually to a three star hotel; however, to fully integrate sustainability, this model needs to be strengthened in terms of cultural and environmental innovation.
